How did you find pilates?
When the world shut down due to Covid I began doing online pilates classes and fell in love. It was the only movement I truly enjoyed and looked forward to practicing each day.
Why do you love Pilates?
Pilates was the first form of exercise that let me appreciate what my body was capable of and not obsess over the way my body looked. I spent many years sick with an eating disorder and abusing exercise. Developing the mind-body connection necessary for pilates helped me to feel safe and at home in my body for the first time in my life.
How did you become an instructor?
The first class I took on the reformer I just knew this was where I needed to be. I was blessed to have the amazing guidance of the 12th Street team and chose to do my certification through BASI pilates. I jumped right into teaching and knew right away- this is where I belong.
What makes your class/style special?
I think my classes are special because I want to make sure everyone in the room is having an amazing time. My goal is to be deeply rooted in the BASI teaching while still bringing my own personality and joy to what I teach. I want us to work hard, feel at home in ourselves, and have fun while we do it.
How long have you been doing pilates & teaching?
I have been practicing pilates for four years and teaching for one.
Would you consider your approach more fitness or technical?
For me it depends on the class! I want to prioritize what my clients need above all else. There are some days we really slow down and work on basic movements to align ourselves and others where we need to pump it up and push ourselves. In my personal practice I like variety so I like to give that to my clients as well.
